Photodiode

A photodiode is a semiconductor device that converts light into an electrical current. The current is generated when photons are absorbed in the photodiode. Photodiodes may contain optical filters, built-in lenses, and may have large or small surface areas. Photodiodes usually have a slower response time as their surface area increases. The common, traditional solar cell used to generate electric solar power is a large area photodiode. Photodiodes are similar to regular semiconductor diodes except that they may be either exposed (to detect vacuum UV or X-rays) or packaged with a window or optical fiber connection to allow light to reach the sensitive part of the device. Many diodes designed for use specially as a photodiode use a PIN junction rather than a p–n junction, to increase the speed of response. A photodiode is designed to operate in reverse bias.

Film Camera Tester

“The idea of using Arduino for measuring camera shutter timings is not new. What I’ve tried to do here, is to make a modular system with a set of features normally offered in professional testers, at the same time …

Tiny, Solar Powered, Light Seeking BEAM Bot (Mini Photopopper)

“Today I will show you how I made this tiny little robot! Since I first mentioned the word in an Instructable and got a couple questions about it, every new BEAM Instructable I feel the need to explain my understanding …

DIY - IR Module

“A sensor is a device that detects and responds to inputs from the physical environment. The input can be light, heat, motion, moisture, pressure, or any other environmental phenomena. Sensors are very important part of electronics, especially in Robotics and …

Thunderstorm Lightning Detector and Camera Trigger (or Droplet Detector)

“Ever wanted to capture lightning on photo? Maybe this camera trigger will help you make incredible images. Sorry, it will not help you with the composition of your photo, the sensor sensitivity, shutter speed, aperture or whitebalance settings of your …

Heartbeat Sensor #phablabs

“Building a heartbeat detector with infrared. Taking your pulse is as simple as holding your finger to your neck and count the beats with your watch. But if you turn that mechanical pulsing action into an electric signal, you are …

Spectrometer Using Arduino

“The light we observe, for example the sun’s light, consists of light of various wavelengths. Also, substances have the property of absorbing light of a specific wavelength. So, if you observe the spectra of distant star’s light on …

DDC I2C KVM with mouse + keyboard controlled by hand gestures

“The goal Make a device to switch mouse+keyboard between computers and change video input in monitors at the same time. Usability Huge! Everything what normal KVM gives without real hardware KVM. Parts Main device 1 x Attiny45 2 x …

How to Make a Professional Looking Proximity Sensor

“In this Instructables i will show you how to make a very simple but very professional looking proximity sensor. You can watch the video which is embedded in this step for construction, parts list, circuit diagram & testing or you can …

How to Make IR Sensor

“Ir sensor used to dectect any movement made in front of the two sensors which is IR led and photodiode. The range of Ir sensor can be adjusted using variable resistor(preset) . the range depends on Quality and specification of …

Distance Measuring Sensor Shield for Arduino Nano Using GP2Y0D810Z0F

“The project published here is a distance measuring sensor shield for Arduino Nano including power driver BJT transistor to drive a load like solenoid, motor or LED. This project can be used as Arduino shield or as stand-alone sensor. GP2Y0D810Z0F …
