The Technical University of Denmark (Danish: Danmarks Tekniske Universitet), often simply referred to as DTU, is a university in Kongens Lyngby, 12 km. north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in 1829 at the initiative of Hans Christian Ørsted as Denmark's first polytechnic, and is today ranked among Europe's leading engineering institutions.

New data transmission record

“Using only a single light source, scientists have set a world record by transmitting 1.8 petabits per second. Their data transmission method uses significantly less power and can help reduce the Internet’s climate footprint. An international group of …

Groundbreaking visualization of atomic movements

“Novel method for imaging vibrations and movements of atoms in catalysts is developed by a collaboration of internationally leading researchers. A group of leading electron microscopy and catalysis researchers have in recent years been working to determine the three-dimensional arrangements …

New blade tip concept to yield considerably more energy

“The innovative SmartTip concept has potential to significantly reduce the cost of wind energy per year, implicitly displacing millions of tons of CO2 each year. It will support novel blade design business cases with potential increased export revenue in Denmark …

Energy hubs in the North Sea require new digital solutions

“Energy hubs in the North Sea, that can collect and distribute energy from offshore wind farms to the European countries, are challenging the usual way of designing electricity grids. A project led by Technical University of Denmark is now developing …

Wind energy in need of further development

“Researchers from DTU Wind Energy and an international group of colleagues are highlighting the need for further scientific and innovation breakthroughs within wind energy. The total global capacity of installed wind turbines have increased tenfold since 2005 as per an …

More and more dangerous tasks to be performed by drones

“A group of DTU researchers have made great progress in enabling drones to carry out small tasks with a robotic arm. The latest results will be presented at the High Tech Summit on 30 and 31 October. Today, drones are …

Blanket of light may give better quantum computers

“A ‘blanket’ of thousands of quantum-mechanically entangled light pulses has the potential to pave the way for more powerful quantum computers. Quantum mechanics is one of the most successful theories of natural science, and although its predictions are often counterintuitive …

Wind turbines to venture out into the deep sea

“Floating offshore wind turbines are gaining ground. A new Danish project aims to make it cheaper and easier to produce floating foundations for deep water. There are only 11 floating offshore wind turbines in the world. The first Danish-developed floating …

New technology behind the world’s smallest power converter

“Five young DTU researchers have developed a new technology for producing a power converter which is shaped like a small cube measuring only a couple of millimetres on each side. The development of future mobile phones and laptops focuses on …

Breakthrough in the search for graphene-based electronics

“A team of researchers from Denmark has solved one of the biggest challenges in making effective nanoelectronics based on graphene. The new results have just been published in Nature Nanotechnology. For 15 years, scientists have tried to exploit the “miracle …
