Dartmouth College (/ˈdɑːrtməθ/ DART-məth) is a private Ivy League research university in Hanover, New Hampshire, United States. Established in 1769 by Eleazar Wheelock, it is the ninth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the nine colonial colleges chartered before the American Revolution. Although founded as a school to educate Native Americans in Christian theology and the English way of life, Dartmouth primarily trained Congregationalist ministers throughout its early history before it gradually secularized, emerging at the turn of the 20th century from relative obscurity into national prominence. Situated on a terrace above the Connecticut River, Dartmouth's 269-acre main campus is in the rural Upper Valley region of New England. The university functions on a quarter system, operating year-round on four ten-week academic terms. Dartmouth is known for its undergraduate focus, strong Greek culture, and wide array of enduring campus traditions.

Chenfeng Ke’s Lab Turns Up the Heat on 3D Printing Inks

“A process that uses heat to change the arrangement of molecular rings on a chemical chain creates 3D-printable gels that can fold, roll, or just hold their shape, according to a Dartmouth study. The researchers describe the new process as …

Versatile molecular system extends the promise of light-activated switches

“New chemical structure proves useful in liquid and solid state Light-activated switches are too small to be seen by the naked eye, but the molecular systems are hard at work in research related to drug design, adaptive materials and data …

Smart ink adds new dimensions to 3-D printing

“Researchers at Dartmouth College have developed a smart ink that turns 3D-printed structures into objects that can change shape and color. The innovation promises to add even more functionality to 3D printing and could pave the way to a new …

A ‘virtual wall’ that improves wireless security and performance

“A team of researchers led by Dartmouth College may have finally solved the problem of how to inexpensively improve wireless signal strength for indoor spaces with multiple rooms. The same technology for enhancing office and home Wi-Fi signals can also …

New ‘printone’ tool allows users to create 3-D printed wind instruments in any shape or form

“A research team from Autodesk and Dartmouth College has developed a new interactive design tool called “Printone,” which provides users with the ability to create functional 3-D printed wind instruments in any shape or form using interactive sound simulation feedback …
